TO THE ZOO

Yesterday was a great day with no clouds and the high was 25C. We had decided we were going to go for a ride and do something and picked the  Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville as our destination.

Brownsville is about a 45 minute drive east of Mercedes and is close to the Mexican border.  We were able to take a secondary road over so we could enjoy the scenery and take our time. It was great as the road wasn’t busy at all and it ran parallel to the border fence for awhile.

Fence entrance with Border Patrol Truck watching.

Before going to the Zoo we stopped for lunch at a restaurant which was recommended by the Tourist Information Centre personnel saying it was popular with the locals. It had very good food and was quite busy.
Sign on the wall says "Not Much ...Just Good"

The Zoo was very good, they had the usual animals. There was a baby gorilla in with a group of them and we watched them for quite awhile. They are very entertaining but I am not sure if we were watching them or if they were watching us at times.

Balancing Act!

Look at me! Take my picture!

No thumbs!

Moving in slow motion.

This rhino walked over to the rock and started scratching it's belly with it.

As soon as we stopped at the Bearded Hog site it went in the water and came out right in front of me - I had to take it's picture. It was about 4 feet away from me with a fence between us.

What resemblance?

On the way home we stopped at this place that will make a sign of any design you want out of steel. They
are cut out with a laser jet.  There was some great designs. They started at $30.00.

Yes, we made it back for Happy Hour.

All for now.
