BACK TO KILGORE

It dropped down to about minus 2C last night so we brought in our water line to protect it from possible freezing. But it did warm up to 15C with lots of sun.

We dressed up with some warm clothes and headed for Kilgore to check out the East Texas Oil Museum.

We had lunch in town here. Cathy said it had great reviews online and we enjoyed it.

The quick story goes: oil was discovered during 1930 and 1931 which in turn brought people, institutions and national attention to East Texas. It was a large discovery with the first well producing 22,000 barrels a day. Drilling increased rapidly from 7 wells every 2 weeks to 7 wells a day and then to 100 a day and more. The first oil produced sold for $1.10 a barrel and dropped to 15 cents as supply flooded the market.  The East Texas Oil Field has produced 6 billion barrels of oil.

These are different types of drilling bits.
The museum was well done and had a mock street of the town displayed inside with a barbershop, general store and newspaper publisher with the street being covered in mud created from rains.

We bought some antifreeze today to winterise the coach before getting into real cold weather. We were hoping it wouldn't be necessary but the winter won't move on.

After arriving home we once again packed things up to get ready for tomorrow’s departure.

All for now....
