BACK TO SOUTH PADRE ISLAND

Yesterday started off with a bit of fog that dissipated with some clouds later developing, but it was very nice with a high of 27C.

We were asked to go to South Padre Island with Ron and Janet to what is called Market Days. This is a large display of arts, collectibles, jewelry and more being held at the Convention Centre. There was a large attendance at this event when we arrived and we checked it all out in 1.5 hours. We bought a small brush to clean the vent, on the coach, from the clothes dryer and some bungee cords to fasten the tire covers I bought earlier.

The Crowd

We had a very good lunch at Blackbeards just down the street. Afterwards, we went to a Turtle Rescue Centre. This centre had about 20-25 turtles with different issues but most had some type of severe limb damage or amputation due to an injury.  We happened to catch a session explaining the centre and details about turtles.  It was mentioned that only 1/3 of 1% of all baby turtles born will live to maturity. Also, a lot of turtles are injured by fishing lines and plastic bags thrown in the water, these wrap around their legs and cut off the blood circulation.

The brace is the stick like object hanging up in the middle.

The two largest turtle skulls.

On the way home we made a quick stop for some ice cream and checked out the water nearby. Another stop we made was at Bobz World another tourist trap with a very interesting entrance. The building was full of the usual crap. It sure is interesting what people will purchase.

This guy watched us eat our ice cream.

We did all this and still made it to happy hour (yea). Another great session on various topics being discussed as well as Cathy and I receiving ideas of places to go and things to see when we hit the road.

 Til tomorrow...
