BACK TO MEXICO

It was a nice day here in Mercedes with a little cloud and a high of 27C.

In the am. we decided to take a bicycle ride from the Resort along the top of the levee which followed the Resaca (pronounced re saw ka)  or water to a Wildlife Sanctuary. This area had several little ponds and paths through out it. This is a well known area for Birders to come and see a number of different birds.

Trail to the Sanctuary - the resort is at far right with the palm trees.

The first pond we approached had a few different birds and a few turtles enjoying the sun and their morning swim.

These guys are the practising for the synchronised swimming team.

Red Eared Turtle

See the baby!

When we were heading to the second pond we came a pond this sign.

Two of these birds were sleeping just off to the side of the trail and are nocturnal.

When we got to a lookout there were some birders with their binoculars, long zoom cameras with tripod wearing vests with their event badges and of course a bird book close by. We forgot our binoculars but there was one on the deck of the platform. This made it great to have a look at the two alligators sunning on the shore and some birds resting in the trees.

These guys were pretty big!

Great Blue Heron
We think these could be Fire Ants - they look pretty wicked.
After lunch we decided to go back to Progresso Mexico to buy some more booze. It is amazing how the alcohol evaporates down here in the warmer temperatures. Plus, Cathy spotted a top last time we were there and decided she wanted it. She had to work hard to negotiate a price which included walking towards the exit of the store with the salesman following her then agreeing to Cathy’s price. She’s has become a tough negotiator - when I first met her she would not do it at all, just pay the asking price.

Of course we were back in time for happy hour at Doc and Nancy’s. Doc was recruiting some help from the guys for Thursday as he is replacing their coach refrigerator with a larger house unit. I hope to have an update on this event then. We finished the day off with a BBQ’ed  steak and some relaxation.

All for now...
